Clutch (Pressure Lining)

What is Clutch (Pressure Lining)?

The clutch (pressure lining) is the part that separates the clutch between the gearbox and the engine in vehicles with manual transmission and is used to shift gears. In automatic transmission vehicles, that is, vehicles with automatic transmission, this process is controlled by the electronic brain of the transmission.

What Are The Main Components Of The Clutch?

We will examine the definitions of the basic components of the clutch, its working principles and the general of the Clutch System under the title of “How Does the Clutch Work?”

Clutch Basic Components

  • Flywheel
  • Printing Plate
  • Clutch Disc
  • Crankshaft
  • Clutch Cover
  • Rivet
  • Diaphragm Spring
  • Gearbox Input Shaft

How Does a Clutch Work?

From the moment the ignition key of the vehicle is turned, the engine rotates continuously and rotates the wheels in contact with the gearbox, so when you want to stop or slow down in a vehicle with manual transmission, the clutch must be activated to keep the engine running. Because when switching from low speed to high speed or from high speed to a low speed, the clutch, which cuts the power from the engine and thus provides the coordination of the engine with the gear, in order to prevent the breakage of the gear gears, activates and enables the vehicle to accelerate or decelerate smoothly.

Clutch

It works by using friction to keep the engine and transmission connected. This friction occurs between a clutch (thrust pad) plate attached to the gearbox and a flywheel attached to the engine.

Clutch (Pressure Pad)

It is the main component that rotates at the same time with the engine and enables this power to be transmitted to the gearbox according to the user’s request. The clutch (thrust lining) plate is in direct contact with the engine due to its function, and as a result of this contact, the power from the engine is transferred to the transmission input shaft through a hub located in the middle of the clutch (thrust lining) and designed in accordance with the gearbox input shaft gears.

While this transfer is taking place between the engine and the gearbox, the system proceeds as follows; When the clutch (thrust pad) is activated, it is transmitted by the pad hub as a result of it jamming between the flywheel gear and the pressure plate.

Flywheel

Regardless of the fuel type of the vehicle, Diesel, Gasoline, Gasoline & LPG, the movement obtained electrically by the starter dynamo (starter motor) is connected to the crankshaft, and the flywheel rotates mechanically with the movement of the crank and provides the first movement to the engine. Subsequently, it has many more functions.

For example; Although it acts as an internal stabilizer, it ensures the continuity of the movement by using the power it receives during the ignition at different times in the cylinders to rotate the engine at other times. Vibrations occurring in the engine are absorbed by the flywheel, creating a smooth friction surface on the clutch (pressure lining).

The main task of the Flywheel Gear, in other words, the Flywheel is to transfer the movement of the engine to the gearbox.

In manual transmission vehicles, the engine and gearbox should be separated from each other in order to ensure absolute gear shifting due to the fact that the clutch (pressure lining) and the gearbox cannot be shifted without disconnecting the gearbox. The clutch ball, which is the heart of the clutch (thrust lining) system, is the clutch ball, in other words, the clutch bearing, which will make this distinction in order to ensure gear shifting.

Clutch Bearing

By pressing the clutch pedal, it instantly separates the engine and transmission as a result of interrupting the transmission of engine power to the transmission during gear shifting. If we talk about the principle of realization of this separation, the power at the moment of pressing the clutch through the clutch rope is transmitted to the clutch bearing and the clutch approaches the flywheel, and in this case, the clutch pressure is pushed inwards and released. As a result of this process, when the clutch pedal is released, the clutch ball returns to its original state and gear shifting is achieved.

The clutch fork is mounted on a shaft and moves by sliding on the socket ball.

The Task of The Clutch Fork

Converts the movement given by the user to the clutch pedal into the forward or reverse movement of the clutch release.

Socket ball is a mechanism that connects the engine power to the transmission system and transfers the power generated during gear shifts to the gearbox output shaft. The position of the ball of the socket is located at the junction of the input shaft and the thrust lining assembly. For this reason, it is also called input shaft ball or transmission ball.

After talking about the basic components of the clutch system, its operations and the clutch system in general, we can now emphasize the importance of the use of the clutch (pressure lining) for long life.

How to Use a Clutch?

When using manual transmission tools, it will be of great benefit to minimize the habit of using the clutch pedal for the long life of the clutch (pressure lining). If you are keeping your foot on the clutch pedal, the first step in this matter is that you can start by giving up this habit. For example; When you stop at the red light, instead of attaching the vehicle to the first gear and keeping your foot pressed on the clutch, or when you wait in a pulled state, in the same way, instead of waiting with the clutch pressed for a short time, stopping the vehicle in neutral is one of the factors that will ensure the life of the clutch. Because when you wait with your foot pressed on the clutch, the clutch ball will turn continuously and your clutch will burn as a result of the application of force.

Clutch (pressure lining)

The way to use it healthily is of course not just waiting for the debriyawede. The second issue is gear shifts. For him, it is to provide the gear shifts you know. But putting the vehicle to neutral and then back into gear will also reduce your clutch repetition. In other words, if you prefer to shift up 50 m – 100 m ahead even though you know it in the future, doing this move will not benefit in size and will damage the clutch from the other as you will use the clutch you know too much. Another important issue is not to let go of the throttle when we change gears serially in order to use less gear shifts and the clutch. Failure to forgive the throttle during gear changes will cause you to overload the clutch lining, and then your clutch will be damaged.

We have examined the important points we need to pay attention to in order to prolong the life of the clutch (pressure lining), but it is not always straight paths….

But what are the ways to use the clutch correctly on steep slopes?

The bumpy or steep slopes we encounter can make us narrow, but it is possible to protect both our driving safety and life with the use of the correct clutch (pressure lining) on these roads that we do not like. When we come across such a road, perhaps the idea of using a half clutch (pressure lining) will immediately come to mind, but on roads with steep slopes, our biggest assistant in terms of clutch (press lining) health will be the hand brake. Driving your vehicle with a half clutch (pressure lining) on steep slopes will cause the clutch to be overburdened and will create a bad burnt smell when it burns. In order not to experience this situation, it is one of the most important issues that will protect your clutch (pressure lining) by pulling the handbrake firmly to ensure a normal start and then to release the handbrake when you will move fully. Remember that the biggest damage is half the clutch. If you have a half clutch habit, be careful to give up this habit….

What Should We Pay Attention To When Replacing The Pressure Pad?

  • As the printing pad replacement is a costly process in terms of price performance, do not just make a pad replacement in order to have a low cost due to the low cost, but definitely change the pad.
  • Pay attention to the quality of the spare parts to be used in the replacement of the printing lining, stay away from the spare parts of the sub-industry.
  • Pay attention to the quality of the spare parts to be used in the replacement of the printing lining, stay away from the spare parts of the sub-industry.
  • Choose Auto Services that provide quality, reliable and corporate service under the roof.
