What is Clutch (Pressure Lining)?

The clutch (pressure lining) is the part that separates the clutch between the gearbox and the engine in vehicles with manual transmission and is used to shift gears. In automatic transmission vehicles, that is, vehicles with automatic transmission, this process is controlled by the electronic brain of the transmission.

How Does a Clutch Work?

Because when switching from low speed to high speed or from high speed to a low speed, the clutch, which cuts the power from the engine and thus provides the coordination of the engine with the gear, in order to prevent the breakage of the gear gears, activates and enables the vehicle to accelerate or decelerate smoothly.


It works by using friction to keep the engine and transmission connected. This friction occurs between a clutch (thrust pad) plate attached to the gearbox and a flywheel attached to the engine.

Clutch (Pressure Pad)

It is the main component that rotates at the same time with the engine and enables this power to be transmitted to the gearbox according to the user’s request. The clutch (thrust lining) plate is in direct contact with the engine due to its function, and as a result of this contact, the power from the engine is transferred to the transmission input shaft through a hub located in the middle of the clutch (thrust lining) and designed in accordance with the gearbox input shaft gears.

While this transfer is taking place between the engine and the gearbox, the system proceeds as follows; When the clutch (thrust pad) is activated, it is transmitted by the pad hub as a result of it jamming between the flywheel gear and the pressure plate.


Regardless of the fuel type of the vehicle, Diesel, Gasoline, Gasoline & LPG, the movement obtained electrically by the starter dynamo (starter motor) is connected to the crankshaft, and the flywheel rotates mechanically with the movement of the crank and provides the first movement to the engine. Subsequently, it has many more functions.

For example; Although it acts as an internal stabilizer, it ensures the continuity of the movement by using the power it receives during the ignition at different times in the cylinders to rotate the engine at other times. Vibrations occurring in the engine are absorbed by the flywheel, creating a smooth friction surface on the clutch (pressure lining).

The main task of the Flywheel Gear, in other words, the Flywheel is to transfer the movement of the engine to the gearbox.

In manual transmission vehicles, the engine and gearbox should be separated from each other in order to ensure absolute gear shifting due to the fact that the clutch (pressure lining) and the gearbox cannot be shifted without disconnecting the gearbox. The clutch ball, which is the heart of the clutch (thrust lining) system, is the clutch ball, in other words, the clutch bearing, which will make this distinction in order to ensure gear shifting.
